Still to Do

Here are the projects we still have to complete around the house:
  • ·         Pour driveway (we’re hiring this out)
  • ·         Backfill the front yard
  • ·         Landscaping
  • ·         Finish porches/stairs
  • ·         Trim work- including baseboards and crown molding
  • ·         Screen door for pantry
  • ·         Door for Alex’s computer closet
  • ·         Finish built ins in Alex’s computer closet
  • ·         Build mantel
  • ·         Paint built ins and mantel; trim out
  • ·         Wainscoting on stair wall
  • ·         Polyurethane stairs
  • ·         Build cabinets for washer and dryer
  • ·         Finish painting bathroom
  • ·         Repair sheetrock in bathroom

There are probably things that I forgot. Oh well!

Living the Small Life

We have finally moved in! Is the house done? No. Do we have a driveway, front yard, or stairs leading up to the front of the house? No. Are we glad we went ahead and moved in? YES!

To be honest, we are exhausted. We are at the point where the words “hammer”, “air compressor”, or “paint” make us dry heave. All in all, we’re in need of a serious break. So, we decided to move into the house (even though it’s unfinished) and relax.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that our most important things fit into the house nicely. I had to purge A LOT (and I still have more to work on- it’s sitting in my parents’ basement), but there is this amazing cleansing feeling that I get when I don’t have stuff that I never use lurking in cabinets and closets.  I will be posting pictures of our storage solutions/organizational information under the "Downsizing" tab soon.

Cooking our first meal!

Looking into the bedroom after coming up the stairs

Craft area- to the right of Oreo is the door to our closet, and the stairs are just beyond that on the right.

Looking into the downstairs while standing on the stairs. Ignore the unfolded quilt!

Kitchen

Alex's computer closet is under the stairs- still needs trim and a door. Also, pretend the stairs are stained and have trim. :)

Tilin’ and Profilin’

Alex is tiling the bathroom floor, shower, and backsplash. Yay tile!

Today I Learned…

How to use power tools! I used my new skills to build the built-ins for the living room and the dinette bench.

Sheetrock, Cabinets, Counters, and Floors

Our sheetrock and cabinets and counters are in! The floors are going in. It’s looking like a house. I have always wanted Carrera marble countertops, and I finally have them! They are more beautiful than expected. I like to touch them.

Siding

We hired this amazing guy to do our siding and paint the exterior of the house. We had originally planned to complete the whole house by ourselves, but the more this drags on the more we find ourselves hiring out projects. We are exhausted. This is not for the faint of heart, apparently.

More Progress

Insulation and fireplace are in!

He's delirious.

There She Blows!

Look! We have a house-shaped house! We had to get the roof on QUICK so we could get the sheetrock in. I called a local roofing company on a Thursday night and explained our situation. They broke the metal for the roof on Friday morning and installed the roof over the weekend. I was very impressed!
